[LCN Newscast] B*ATL 2006 (Battle of Atlanta commemoration & activities) is this weekend

July 22nd will mark the 142nd Anniversary of the Battle of Atlanta.
To commemorate this important part of Atlanta's history, the
neighborhoods in the 5th Council District have teamed together to
organize B*ATL on the weekend of July 22nd.  These neighborhoods are
in the area where the actual Civil War battle occurred. This will be a
day of celebration and remembrance with something for everyone
including: a Golf Tournament, a Gala Barbeque on Friday Night, and on
Saturday a 5K run, B*ATL Tours, a civil war encampment of re-enactment
soldiers, and more!! Please see the schedule of events below.

Naio Gallery will have folk art paintings done by artists of Taller
Potabello an artist collective in Panama. The artists are descendants
of African
Slaves who escaped into the jungle. The art reflects their Congo heritage.

Sabra Gallery will have drawings and prints of Oakland Cemetery from a
noted local artist. The drawings are rich with color and have the
quality of stained glass. Other historic materials will also be on
display.

Bound to Be Read Books the Village's independent book merchant will
feature books about the Civil War and Atlanta History.
