PROPERTY TAXES - PUBLIC FORUM
Increasingly, questions are being asked about our rising property taxes,
especially by those of limited income and seniors. On November 10, 2005,
I along with the League of Women Voters of DeKalb County, will host a
public forum on property tax assessments and relevant bills in the
Georgia legislature. Knowing how your property taxes are assessed and
what exemptions may apply is critical to all DeKalb property owners.
The forum will include both a panel presentation and a question and
answer period. Panel members will include:
· DeKalb Chief Appraiser Eugene James on property appraisals,
· DeKalb Tax Commissioner Tom Scott on existing exemptions,
· State Senator Dan Weber on HB595, and
· State Representative Stephanie Stuckey Benfield on a proposal
to change exemptions.
This forum is scheduled for Thursday, November 10, 7-9 pm, 4380 Memorial
Drive in the Training Room of the DeKalb County Memorial Drive Government
Building. The Election Supervisors' and the Tax Commissioner's offices
are in this building. The night entrance to this room is on the Northern
Avenue side of the building.
