Yet it seems it is time for a change. Within the next few days I shall be transitioning the various tasks of web and e-mail maintenance to Randy Byrd. No e-mails sent to the webmaster address in the next few days are likely to get lost, though. The website itself has changed little recently, apart from special notices for the Tour of Homes and contact info. But I hope my releasing of accurate, informative, and reasonably frequent Newscasts has provided some compensation for the lack of variety on the website. Since beginning "Newscast" I have been the only one posting items, although the content of the messages usually came from other officers or neighbors. This is my last Newscast. For your information, I have included below two general administrative notices about the Newscast system. The first is about archived Newscast postings. The second explains how to remove or add yourself to the list. Thank you, and may God bless the shores of Lake Claire. Neighborly yours, Dennis McCarthy ------------------------------------- Archived Announcements Available In case you are unaware, archives are available of all previous Newscast announcements. If you want to read a gardening tip or safety notice that you may have deleted from your e-mail box, just go to: http://lists.lakeclaire.org/pipermail/newscast/ Announcements are grouped by annual quarters (i.e. "2003q3" covers July thro' September of 2003) and go back to 2001 Jan 15. ------------------------------------- How to Unsubscribe to Newscast Moved? Switching e-mail accounts? For privacy reasons, Lake Claire's website managers do not subscribe anyone to or unsubscribe anyone from the Newscast list. If you know your Newscast password: 1) Go to http://lists.lakeclaire.org/mailman/listinfo/newscast 2) Near the bottom of the page, enter your e-mail address (the one that receives Newscast messages) in the dialog box next to the "Edit Options" button. 3) Click on the "Edit Options" button. 4) Enter your Newscast password in the dialog box next to the "Unsubscribe" button. 5) Click the "Unsubscribe" button. 6) A message should display on your web browser: "Newscast Unsubscribe Results / You have been unsubscribed." 7) You are done! If you DO NOT know your Newscast password: 1) Go to http://lists.lakeclaire.org/mailman/listinfo/newscast 2) Near the bottom of the page, enter your e-mail address (the one that receives Newscast messages) in the dialog box next to the "Edit Options" button. 3) Click on the "Edit Options" button. 4) Click the "Email My Password To Me" button. 5) After a few minutes, check your e-mail for a message containing your password. 6) Follow the first set of instructions at the top of this notice. On November 10, 2005, I along with the League of Women Voters of DeKalb County, will host a public forum on property tax assessments and relevant bills in the Georgia legislature. Knowing how your property taxes are assessed and what exemptions may apply is critical to all DeKalb property owners. The forum will include both a panel presentation and a question and answer period. Panel members will include: · DeKalb Chief Appraiser Eugene James on property appraisals, · DeKalb Tax Commissioner Tom Scott on existing exemptions, · State Senator Dan Weber on HB595, and · State Representative Stephanie Stuckey Benfield on a proposal to change exemptions. This forum is scheduled for Thursday, November 10, 7-9 pm, 4380 Memorial Drive in the Training Room of the DeKalb County Memorial Drive Government Building. The Election Supervisors' and the Tax Commissioner's offices are in this building. The night entrance to this room is on the Northern Avenue side of the building. _________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________ Jimmy Carter Library & Museum News Release 441 Freedom Parkway, Atlanta, GA 30307-1498 404-865-7100 Carter Presidential Library Opens First Ladies exhibit to Public Thursday, Oct. 27, 7pm-8pm. My colleagues and I are conducting ethnographic research on various neighborhoods in and around Atlanta. We are mainly looking at the change in areas over time. We would like to conduct some interviews with residents of the Lake Claire neighborhood. The respondents will be kept completely confidential and the interviews will last as long as the respondents would like. We have a basic outline of the type of questions that will be asked as follows: Questions for interviews/questionnaires: Length of residency in area Changes during this time? Were these positive or negative changes? Reasons for originally moving into the area? Before living in the area (if applicable), where did they live? (urban/rural setting) What sort of associations do they have for/hear about the area? -sense of community/closeness to neighbors? -crime? Demographics of neighborhood? If this is something you would be interested in please let me know as soon a possible. I thank you in advance for your participation. It has 3 components: library improvements, roads and sidewalks, and parks and greenspace projects. Each issue may be voted on separately. The library portion would fund 3 new libraries, expand 4 existing ones, and finance 5 new replacement libraries, including the one at Toco Hlls. As residents of Atlanta-Dekalb, Lake Claire neighbors may be members of both Dekalb Co. and Atlanta-Fulton County libraries. Not only will this referendum pay for buildings, it will buy books and AV materials, which may be reserved on line county-wide and delivered to the branch of your choice. The greenspace portion of the referendum should be of particular interest to Lake Claire folks because it includes funding for work at Deepdene Park, which is in our neck of the woods, as well as nearby Mason Mill park and Little Creek Farm Park. If passed, the bond will add less than $100 to the tax bill for a $300,000 house. For more information, visit www.BetterDekalb.com Turn out may be light at the polls on Tues., so your vote could really count.
