This past Saturday night (2004 Dec 11) someone stole a package
that was left overnight on a front porch at an address on
Ridgewood Ave. The contents were found on Almeta Ave on Sunday
morning. The people who found the package were told to call 911
and report it, but we do not know if that occurred. The family
on Ridgewood was out of town.
We have recently posted a Newscast alert about this type of
incident and have advised everyone to ask his neighbors to pick
up any packages that are left when he is out of town.
I wanted to alert you all because this is the second time within
a week that the same thing has happened on the same street and
the package contents found on Almeta. I believe the last time
this occurred it was either a Friday night or a Saturday night.
It was reported to 911. I do remember the contents were found on
a weekend.
Can you help solve the problem? Yes...
1) If you see a suspicious person (someone walking down the
street looking into cars, or "checking out" houses)
!!! CALL 911 !!!
Note as best you can the height, age, gender, race, clothing,
vehicle, where you last saw the person, and in which direction he
is heading.
2) If you are expecting packages, ask a neighbor to check so the
package can be taken in or not left in view of the street. Also
have someone pick up the mail daily, or have your mail delivery
halted from 3-30 days. Download PS Form 8076, "Authorization to
Hold Mail":
http://www.usps.com/forms/_pdf/ps8076.pdf
Please note that this will not stop UPS, DHL, FedEx, et cetera
deliveries.
3) If you will be out of town for the holidays, you may want to
fill out a Special Patrol Request Form. It will let patrolling
officers know no one is home at your address, so if they see
someone on your property they can take appropriate action.
Download the "Special Patrol Request" form:

Fax, mail, hand carry, or call in the information to the Zone Six
Precinct.
