This Saturday, 2004 June 26, we are having a work party in the
Frazer Forest from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. We are planning to
work on trail narrowing, mulching, and removal of ivy and other
invasive plants. There is a wealth of natural wildflowers and
other native plants being choked by these invasives. The future
of the forest depends on our removal of these pests.
If you have walked through the forest, you can see the
(beginning) fruits of our labor from the first work days! Ivy
has been cut from most the trees in the southeast corner and the
area around the twin tulip poplars has been cleared of most of
the ivy and invasive shrubs.
We will be working in small groups of 4-6 people. If you have
lobbers, clippers, or pruning saws, please bring them with you.
There is poison ivy in the woods, so you might want to wear long
pants and long sleeves. We will be working in the shade of the
forest.
Meet at 10 o'clock at the mulch pile at the end of the lower
parking lot entrance from the Frazer Center. (It is the right
turn off just past the gardens when going up the hill.)
