Larceny Alert
The Atlanta Police Department has sent out an advisory concerning
several burglaries and thefts from storage sheds in the Candler
Park and Lake Claire neighborhoods. Please make a note of the
following and pass along to your neighbors. The police recommend
the following:
- Install padlocks on storage sheds and crawl space doors.
- Store property (bikes, lawn care equipment, etc.) in secured
locations. If storage sheds are unavailable, chain and padlock
your property to an immovable structure.
- Record serial numbers from various property (bicycles, power
tools, lawn mowers, etc.) on your owner's manual or a secured
ledger inside your home in the event you have to positively
identify your property in the future.
- Scratch, engrave, or mark with a permanent marker your name
and/or date of birth, address, or other secret number in or on
various pieces of personal property (lawn mower, bicycle, outdoor
furniture, expensive flower pots, extension ladders, power tools,
etc.
- Consider the installation of outdoor motion sensor lighting to
dimly lit areas of your yard.

personal with intent to deprive the right owner of the same.
[The words are almost interchangeable, but at various times there
have been some legal distinctions between the terms Larceny and
Theft.]
Burglary: Breaking and entering the dwelling house of another,
in the nighttime, with intent to commit a felony therein, whether
the felonious purpose be accomplished or not.
Robbery: Taking the property of anyone from his person, or in
