MARTA to Sell DeKalb Avenue Properties in Lake Claire

MARTA is in the process of listing for sale the vacant properties
along DeKalb Avenue between Connecticut Avenue and Casson Avenue,
and the lot east of Casson Avenue. MARTA will sell these
properties in a closed bid process (at the starting price of
$1,000,040) to the highest bidder. The time frame for this is
sometime in June. MARTA has the ability to sell to a
municipality or governmental organization before going through
the sealed bid process.

There has been an ongoing discussion of redevelopment along
DeKalb Avenue in our neighborhood. The DeKalb Avenue Corridor
Study, chaired by Dan Salmond, addresses many ideas,
possibilities, and guidelines. For information on neighborhood
commercial districts, visit http://www.lakeclaire.org/docs/
(the documents are down about 17 from the top). Dan Salmond
has begun conversations with neighbors and people connected to
the neighborhood in an attempt to pull together a neighborhood-
based development of this site. The conversation is very young
and fluid at the moment, and no set vision has come to light.
If you have any questions or ideas, please contact Dan at
dekalb@lakeclaire.org .

Dan will hold a DeKalb Ave Study Committee meeting to discuss
the MARTA land sale, 2004 May 17 Monday 6:00 p.m., at the stage
on the Land Trust (end of Arizona Ave). Food and beverages will
be available.
