Kirkwood Tour of Homes

Kirkwood Spring Fling
2004 May 15
For those of you who may have wondered what’s over there on the
other side of the MARTA/CSX tracks, this is your chance to find
out. Now that we’ve had five years to recuperate from our first
tour of homes in 1999, the Kirkwood Neighbors Organization
("KNO") is ready to do it all over again. The 2nd Kirkwood Tour
of Homes is set to take place on May 15 and 16. The annual KNO
Spring Fling and softball game is also set for Saturday, May 15.
The tour of homes will consist of 12 of Kirkwood finest houses,
including several late 19th century and early 20th century
Victorians, American Four-squares, and Craftsman bungalows, as
well as some of Kirkwood’s newest homes and a loft at the former
Kirkwood Elementary School. The tour will run from 11:00 a.m.
to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and from noon to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday.
Tickets may be purchased in advance for $12 at Sweet Java Brown
and for $15 on Saturday and Sunday at Bessie Branham Park (at
the intersection of Kirkwood Road and Delano Drive, 1 block
north of the Kirkwood Library and the Zone 6 Police Precinct).
Don’t miss this opportunity for a peek inside some of your
neighbors’ homes. Most importantly, all proceeds from the tour
of homes will go to the purchase of new equipment for the
children’s playground at Bessie Branham Park (over $26,000
raised so far).
Saturday, May 15 also marks the date of our annual Spring Fling
and softball game at Bessie Branham Park in the heart of
Kirkwood. This year, weather permitting, Southern Playgrounds,
Inc. and Pete Zirnheld have donated the use of a hot air balloon
on Saturday, beginning at about 5:00 p.m. for tethered rides
in the park. Food and drinks will also be available for
purchase. Again, all proceeds will go to our playground fund.
The annual Kirkwood/East Lake softball game will begin at
approximately 11 a.m. Anyone (regardless of where you really
live) with a glove is welcome to play. There will also be
numerous artists booths featuring fine arts, jewelry and other
crafts for sale. Several children’s activities, including face
painting, sack races, a cake-walk and other games, are also
planned.
