GOOD NEWS! Candler Park-Lake Claire Transportation Committee Awarded
Grant by Governor Barnes
---------------------------------------------------------------
Governor Roy Barnes announced Tuesday that he is awarding the Candler
Park-Lake Claire Transportation Committee a $20,000 grant. The grant
was secured by State Representative Stephanie Stuckey who deserves a
hearty thanks from Candler Park and Lake Claire residents. Thanks also
to State Senator Mike Pokak and Atlanta City Councilor Cathy Woolard for
their helpful support. The Transportation Committee is chaired by George
Dusenbury of Candler Park.
This grant will help pay for a traffic engineering study of the McLendon
corridor focusing on traffic calming measures such as "pinch points",
streetscape enhancements including bikeways, and repaving. The
McLendon-Clifton intersection will be especially studied.
Our neighborhoods will need to raise additional funds before proceeding
as the study cost is estimated at greater than $30,000. This engineering
study is necessary to obtain the million dollars of City of Atlanta bond
referendum funds previously allocated for McLendon improvements and
obtained by District 6 councilor Cathy Woolard.
