ARMED ASSAULT IN CANDLER PARK
>From Carol Mercer, VP-Safety, Lake Claire Neighbors,
safety@lakeclaire.org
Hi All,
Below find information from my safety counter-part in the Candler Park
Neighborhood Organization, Greg Reinhardt. I have some information to
add that I got from Officer Bud Watson last night.
APD has not made an arrest yet, but they do have leads. The three
perpetrators in the assault case are also suspected in the robbery of
two restaurants in Little Five Points as well as one in Cabbagetown.
They robbed the patrons in at least one restaurant. This trio is also
being sought for other crimes outside of LC, CPk and Little Five. They
think that this trio is part of a loosely formed gang. The group is
very mobile and appears to be all over this area.
Officer Watson says "be very aware of your surroundings, don't let
yourself be a victim, call 911 if you see suspicious people especially
if they look like they are casing an area or women - do not allow
yourself to forced into a car or home, scream, fight, yell fire etc. If
you see anyone/group resembling the description below, call 911.
Remember if they are legit, they can prove it."
Be Safe,
Carol

CANDLER PARK ASSAULT
- Greg Reinhardt, VP-Safety, CPNO
On Wednesday September 26, 2001 at 2:30 PM there was an armed assault on
the 400 block of Sterling Drive in Candler Park. The victim was
unloading groceries from her car with the trunk open and the door to her
house open. There were 3 people walking down the street from McLendon
Ave. toward Euclid Ave. They walked part way down the street then
doubled back to the car. The victim met them at the car, at which time
they pulled out a gun and demanded that she be silent and go into the
house. She struggled with the assailants, made noise, and refused to go
into the house. An alert neighbor called the police.
A description of the attackers is: 3 black males, medium to dark skin.
Fairly closely cropped hair, one has a medium length Afro haircut, the
others have closely cropped hair. No facial hair. No distinguishing
features, marks, or scars. Clothing was fairly non descript, loose,
dark toned, maybe dark green or gray. They are of slim build, not
muscular. They appear to be young. The two youngest are around 16 years
old, 5' 5" to 5' 7" in height. The oldest is perhaps 19 years old and
5' 8" to 5' 9" in height. The oldest one held the gun.
If you see a group of people that matches this description, please dial
911 and notify the police. You might remind them of the above incident.
Try to get a good look if you can and get a description including
clothing. In this case, I would recommend calling 911 even if they
aren't doing anything suspicious. These individuals are obviously
accustomed to crime and emboldened. If you have further questions,
please call me at 404-584-6622 or e-mail me at gareinha@gapac.com .
Thank You,
Gregg Reinhardt
